      A Condensed History The 20th Engineers traces its origins to 15 August , when the War Department issued General Order Number forming the 20th Engineer Regiment for World War 11 November , the first contingent of the newly formed regiment departed for St. Nazaire, France, where the regiment grew to become the largest regiment in the history of the . The regiment also supported the Meuse-Argonne offensive and was preparing to support a Second Army offensive against the fortress city of Metz, when the Armistice was declared on 11 November.
